The Court has accepted two new cases.
Thomasson v. Thomasson is a divorce case out of the Eighth District which raises three questions about whether a court can appoint a guardian ad litem for an adult. The trial court sua sponte appointed a guardian ad litem for the appellant, Carol Thomasson. The Eighth District dismissed Carol's appeal from that order for lack of jurisdiction.
State v. Stevens is a Fifth District appeal by the State that was held for the decision in State v. Grimes. Oddly, though, Grimes was decided a week before this order was released. Grimes relates to necessary elements in a sentencing entry imposing post-release control. I would expect Stevens to be reversed and remanded on the authority of Grimes in the near future.
